5 88 Million Grant Promises Innovations In Biomass Research

Humboldt State University, Forest Business Network and 14 other regional partners received a 5.88 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to conduct innovative biomass research. Under the grant, a team of academics, industry partners and forest land managers will build on existing research on the conversion of forest residues such as limbs, treetops and other waste materials into renewable fuel and other products.

Other partners include: Green Diamond Resource Company, Pellet Fuels Institute, the University of Washington, Oregon State University, the Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, USFS Rocky Mountain Research Station, USFS Forest Products Lab, Redwood Forest Foundation, Forest Concepts LLC, Steve Morris Logging, Peterson Pacific Corp., and Biochar Solutions Inc.

The grant is titled "Waste to Wisdom: Utilizing forest residues for the production of bioenergy and bioproducts."
