In Kenya The Muhuru Bay Community Micro Grid Is Up And Running
THE MUHURU BAY PROJECT WORKS TOWARDS BRINGING SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TO THE KRISTY'S CAPE ACADEMY (SCHOOL) AND THE COMMUNITY OF MUHURU BAY IN KENYA, THANKS TO WIND TURBINES. LOCATED NEAR THE LAKE VICTORIA, MUHURU BAY IS A VERY WINDY REGION. Part of the project team from the Network Management Solutions Alstom business in Redmond, WA, visited the project in August and reported that the new community micro grid powered by wind energy, solar and energy storage, was up and running ! In addition, the team delivered battery kits to local homes to replace kerosene for lighting and to charge cellphones. The project is a joint effort between Alstom (Redmond and Nairobi), Seattle University, IEEE Community Solutions Initiative, Engineers Without Borders and various other sponsors/donors. READ THE DETAILED REPORT FROM THE TEAM'S IMPLEMENTATION TRIP ON THE 'MUHURU BAY COMMUNITY MICRO GRID' BLOG. "PowerGen finished installing the wind turbines on 25 August and they are producing power!" " "On the same day, a big gathering with the community was organised to celebrate this great achievement." " "A first customer is picking up his battery kit, called BBOXX, on 28 August."
